Devendra Fadnavis is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Devendra Fadnavis, who secured Maharashtra politics from Vidarbha, will contest from Nagpur South-West Assembly seat.
CM made at age 47
The phase of the rigorous examination of Fadnavis had started from the same day when he reached the top by representing the Brahmin class among the Maratha contenders in power in Maharashtra. The BJP won the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections with an overwhelming majority. Devendra Fadnavis’s name was the biggest surprise for the post of Chief Minister after the victory. At the age of only 47, Devendra Fadnavis had the distinction of becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Before him, only NCP President Sharad Pawar has been such a person who became CM at an early age.
Political journey has been impeccableThe only reason for the party’s strong confidence in Devendra Fadnavis was his political journey filled with impeccable and youthful enthusiasm. The association with the Sangh was inherited which made him a very disciplinary worker and the initiation of the Sangh proved to be a lifeline in his political life. But before the important responsibility of CM post, he had gained experience as the responsibility of BJP President of the state. He was considered close to the late Gopinath Munde and it was only with his support that he could achieve this. After the untimely demise of Gopinath Munde, Devendra Fadnavis worked to fill that void and with his political acumen, managed to overcome opponents. After which the way to become his CM was decided by PM Modi’s confession.
Faced with challenges in five years
Devendra, who became the youngest CM of the state, played the Maratha reservation card before the Lok Sabha elections. The big challenge before Devendra Fandavis was that due to the card, reservation of backward should not be affected from anywhere. He worked to make the quota of the backward class untouched. Forwards are considered the core voters of the BJP.
Took big decisions
Last year, Marathas also organized a violent movement on reservation. After which the bill to provide 16 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions was passed to woo 30 percent Marathas. This was the big political bet of Devendra Fadnavis. Apart from this, Devendra Fadnavis is taking the development agenda of Maharashtra. He emphasized on irrigation system to make the state drought free. Due to the waterlogged Shivar, the current year is witnessing a decline in drought. Apart from this, during his five-year tenure, he stressed on the infrastructure in the metros. During the tenure of the Devendra Fadnavis government, Chhagan tried to send a big message with the arrest of Bhujbal. But on the farmers’ front, the Fadnavis government’s decision not to waive its debt seems un-political.
Became MLA from Nagpur in 1999
Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis was born on 22 July 1970 in a Brahmin family in Nagpur. His father Gangadhar Rao was associated with RSS and Jana Sangh. He was also a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Devendra benefited from his political legacy and political experience from his father. He joined the ABVP i.e. the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad during his college studies. Apart from this, he was also associated with the Sangh branch in Nagpur. At the age of 21, Devendra Fadnavis was appointed Municipal Corporator of Nagpur. He became the mayor in 1997 at the age of 27 and was the mayor from 1997 to 2001. In 1999, when he became an MLA from Nagpur, in 2001 he was also the National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
