Is this the right time to invest in ETFs? How is Mirae Asset’s new ESG NFO

ETF On Why the Increased Stayed Mutual Funds Of Emphasis?

Although ETFs have existed in India for the last 20 years, but the growth in ETFs has actually been seen in the last 5-6 years. Some of the reasons for increasing AUM of ETFs in India are:

Governments are using ETFs as a preferred route for disinvestment, which has led to the participation of small investors. EPFOs and private PF entities are using ETFs to increase their investment in the stock market.

In the active fund, the general investors have also become aware of the advantages of ETFs like Nifty, Sensex due to the lack of scope to get better returns from the market.

When the market is mature and effective, the alpha opportunities decrease. We have probably entered a period when it has become very difficult to achieve big alpha. In such a situation, an investor can keep a greater share of products like ETFs in his portfolio to avoid the risk of underperformance as compared to benchmarking and to create wealth continuously by investing.

The most essential feature of investing in an ETF is to have a demat / trading account, as ETFs are traded and traded on an exchange like shares. If we look at the data released by SEBI, the highest number of demat accounts were opened in FY 2020.

By March 31, 2020, the number of newly added demat accounts had reached 49 lakhs and was 22.5 percent higher than a year ago. One is the highest gain in the last decade. Talking further, this number will increase, because investors will want to put their money in financial assets. The opening of new demat accounts will encourage the growth of ETFs, as it will enable small investors to invest directly in ETFs.
