Star Wars Art Imagines How Christensen’s Anakin Looks Under Vader’s Mask

A brand new Star Wars fan-art imagines what Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker would look like under his Darth Vader helmet in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

A new fan art imagines what Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker would look like under his Darth Vader mask when he appears in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The Star Wars actor is tipped to make his return to the galaxy far, far away through the upcoming Disney+ series where he’ll reunite with his prequel trilogy co-star, Ewan McGregor.

Following the success of the original Star Wars films, George Lucas continued the Skywalker saga by going back in time and tackling the origins of Darth Vader. The character’s story revealed that he was once Jedi who was corrupted by Emperor Palpatine and fell to the dark side. During his time with the Force-wielding peacekeepers, he was partnered up with his Jedi master who became a good friend and ally, Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, due to his paralyzing fears about losing his wife, Padmé Amidala, Anakin became more susceptible to Darth Sidious’ ministrations. His change in allegiance effectively destroyed his and his mentor’s relationship.

Now, Lucasfilm is set to re-visit the complicated relationship in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. During Disney’s Investor’s Day 2020 in December, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader in the project and will find himself once again face-to-face with Obi-Wan. Given this, Reddit user with the handle u/driku12 imagines what the actor would look like under the villain’s iconic mask. Check out the image below:

Since putting the Darth Vader mask on, Star Wars has never shown Christensen’s Anakin under the mask. In fact, his final scene in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith has been mocked and memed online as he laughably screamed upon learning that Padmé has died. While the villain has appeared in subsequent films and animated shows, Christensen wasn’t playing him. So even if they teased Anakin’s real appearance bar his armor, it wasn’t the actor’s face. Kennedy particularly said that Christensen will return as Darth Vader for a rematch with Obi-Wan, effectively squashing theories that the actor’s involvement could be for flashback sequences that could show him during his Jedi days. This doesn’t mean that this is totally out of the equation; the actor’s primary role will be Darth Vader, however.

While there’s significance to seeing Christensen reprise his Star Wars role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Lucasfilm could’ve also opted to use a body double instead of bringing him back if they don’t plan on showing his face in any way. The aforementioned fan-art does a great job reconciling the actor’s appearance to Sebastian Shaw’s from Return of the Jedi for a cohesive look for the character. Understandably, Disney is keeping information about Darth Vader’s involvement and the show’s overall plot tightly under wraps while production quietly progresses. At this point, only McGregor has revealed what he would actually look like in the series.
