Marvel Comics has just announced the next hero getting the Black, White & Blood treatment, and it’s none other than the Merc With the Mouth Deadpool. While Wade Wilson is the ideal candidate to be featured appearance-wise (his costume is already red and black), his work as a mercenary with a healing factor ensures that when he’s involved, things often get bloody, himself included. And to kick things off, some all-star creatives will be coming up with stories that sound pretty amazing for the first issue.
Marvel’s Black, White & Blood began with an initial 5-issue miniseries featuring Wolverine, which was followed by a subsequent miniseries featuring Cletus Kasady’s Carnage, the Marvel Universe’s most lethal symbiote serial killer. Both series featured collections of short stories with every issue, featuring dynamic looks at moments like when Wolverine fought the Silver Samurai or when Carnage bonded to a great white shark during Marvel’s King in Black event.

Now, Deadpool is up to bat for Black, White & Blood, and the first issue promises to be just as epic and bloody as the preceding two miniseries. In a statement given to Comicbook.com, one of the first issue’s writers, Ed Brisson, shared his excitement for his upcoming story with artist Whilce Portacio, and he also shared some of the details about Deadpool’s first adventure in the anthology series:
“I finally got to put a Deadpool story I’d been keeping in my back pocket for nearly a decade down on to paper, which was pretty thrilling. Deadpool curses streaming platforms, laments the loss of video stores, and invades a foreign country all in the name of Bea Arthur.”
For fans that don’t know, Deadpool is canonically a massive Bea Arthur and Golden Girls fan both in the comics and in the films starring Ryan Reynolds, so it’s no doubt going to be a pretty hilarious story all around. Here’s the cover art and solicitation info for Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #1:
- DEADPOOL: BLACK, WHITE & BLOOD #1 (OF 5)
- TOM TAYLOR, ED BRISSON, JAMES STOKOE (W)
- James Stokoe, Whilce Portacio, and Phil Noto (A)
- Cover by ADAM KUBERT
- LIKE A CLASSIC BLACK & WHITE MOVIE, BUT WITH WAY MORE BLOOD!
- What’s black, white, and red all over? Three blood-drenched tales of violence and mayhem led by Marvel’s Mirthful Mercenary himself, Deadpool! You want to see today’s top talent take it to the hilt to bring you the wildest Wade Wilson adventures yet?! This is the book for you! It’s as plain as black and white. And red.
Tom Taylor and Phil Noto will also have a story featured in the issue, one seeing Wade teaming up once more with Gabby Kinney, X-23’s clone sister (whom Taylor created). While she now goes by Scout, Taylor had nicknamed her the Honey Badger, and there’s certainly going to be plenty of fans excited to pick up this particular issue just to see the duo back together again.
In any case, it seems as though the perfect storm is brewing for yet another great black and white miniseries, and who better than Deadpool to keep the party going? Wade Wilson was made for this kind of anthology series, though Taylor did apologize in the statement to artist Phil Noto, as their story will apparently be going “heavy on the red ink.” Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #1 will be releasing this August from Marvel Comics.
