Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Teaser Confirms Final Season Premiere Date

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8, which will consist of ten episodes and be the show’s last, will premiere this August on NBC after the Summer Olympics.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8, also the show’s last, now has an official premiere date this August as revealed in a new teaser. After eight seasons, two different networks, and multiple award wins, the popular comedy series is finally coming to an end this year on NBC. The last episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine aired in April 2020, so viewers have been waiting for over a year to see the latest episodes.

The series’ return suffered delays over the last year. Multiple scripts were thrown out and reworked in the wake of the protests against police brutality. These various delays caused Brooklyn Nine-Nine to miss the 2020-2021 television season, but now the series is set to make a big return at the end of the summer for its final go-around. NBC recently announced it planned to air Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 after the Summer Olympics. Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, the shortest order in the series history and the first time the show has premiered in the summer.

An official trailer has been released for the final season on Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s YouTube channel. It confirms the series will return on Thursday, August 12. This puts it four days after the Summer Olympics end on August 8.

The trailer highlights many fan-favorite moments throughout the series history including running gags like Jake’s catchphrases, the shouting of “NINE-NINE,” and of course the various heists that have become a tradition on the series. The heist normally acts as a Halloween episode, though not always, so there’s a chance season 8 will feature another, despite its shortened run. Quite possibly the final episode of the series could be the heist episode, sending it out in a true blaze of glory.

Given the much-needed conversations about police brutality in the United States and the various calls from the stars of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to have Hollywood rethink how it portrays cops, it may seem like the right time to end the series. The show’s actors have also seen their stars on the rise in recent years and are likely ready to move on to other projects. Brooklyn Nine-Nine survived cancelation once before due to the love of viewers, and now the series gets to go out on its own terms giving its various characters an ending they deserve. Since the show has been off the air for over a year, the writers have had time to craft scripts to please long-time fans and give a worthy ending to the detectives of the Nine-Nine.
