After heavy teases, Call of Duty has revealed its Rambo and Die Hard skins in a trailer for its upcoming ’80s Action Heroes event at last. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone‘s wide array of operators and skins – including some modeled after horror movie characters Jigsaw and Leatherface – has made the franchise more profitable than ever, and Activision seems keen to lean all the way into the money-printing trend with classic action movie stars in Call of Duty.
The spree of rumors, leaks, and increasingly heavy-handed teases by Call of Duty on social media may have made the arrival of First Blood-era John Rambo and Die Hard‘s John McClane skins feel prolonged, but their existence was only known for a relatively short time before being officially hinted at. A rumor about a Rambo skin coming to Warzone and Black Ops Cold War began circulating online in early May, though it’s unclear how the information seeped out of Activision’s grasp. Much to the publisher’s likely satisfaction, though, the player response was overwhelmingly positive. Then, Call of Duty‘s Twitter account began heavily suggesting that the rumors held water in the coming weeks, culminating in an official teaser that provided just a sneak peek at the coming Rambo skin and an allusion to the iconic First Blood quote, “To survive a war, you gotta become war.”
Most recently, convincing Call of Duty screenshots of Rambo and Die Hard skins leaked online, seeming to prompt an even more thinly veiled tease from Call of Duty‘s Twitter telling players to prepare for May 20, the start of the ’80s Action Heroes event. A surprise Tuesday trailer has finally confirmed the inclusion and appearance of Rambo and McClane’s skins in a new trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, and Mobile players.
