The restaurant industry may have been hit hard due to COVID, but its spirit remains unbruised. Some of the best Indian restaurants around the world are joining hands to help Indian citizens gasping for breath.

1 Billion Breaths is a campaign led by Indian restaurants in the UK, US, Canada and Peru. As part of the initiative, they will offer meals that will wholly contribute towards oxygen cylinders. Meals will be priced to supply 10kg oxygen, as per the website. The funds will be directed to partner foundations such as Hemkunt Foundation and Give India Oxygen, organisations that are working round the clock to supply oxygen concentrators to people across India.

Trishna, Jamavar, Gunpowder, Gymkhana, Kanishka by Atul Kochhar and Brigadiers are some of the restaurants in London participating. From Canada, there’s Coconut Lagoon (Ottawa), Curryish (Toronto) and Vij’s (Vancouver) and My Shanti by Vikram Vij (Surrey), and from Lima, Peru, Dhaasu Cocina – Delhi. From the US, Adda (New York), Baar Baar (New York), Chai Pani (North Carolina and Georgia) and Rooh (San Francisco and Chicago) are among the many restaurants contributing toward the cause. The campaign will run from 23 May to 30 May and the restaurants aim to collect USD $250,000 (Rs1.8crore).

You can contribute by ordering a meal from one of the restaurants mentioned above. Even if you’re not in one of these countries, you can contribute by donating here.
