To ring in Baisakhi, the Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board (PCHB) honoured eminent achievers from the community with the Punjabi Icon Awards.
Baisakhi is a Punjabi festival that farmers traditionally observe as thanksgiving, by expressing their gratitude for abundant harvest and praying for prosperity in the future. And PCHB, which is spearheading the promotion of Punjabi culture and heritage since years by organising various socio-cultural programmes, chose this occasion to honour people from the community who have made a name for themselves in various walks of life.
This year, the awards ceremony witnessed an electrifying performance by popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh. One of the best stand-up comedians, Rajiv Thakur, too had the crowd in splits.
Attended by the who’s who of society, including actors Gulshan Grover and Rohit Roy, the event was anchored by Satinder Satti. Actors Randeep Hooda, Tiger Shroff and Pooja Bhatt, ad man Prahlad Kakar, politician Ruby Dhalla, senior advocate Jaiveer Shergill and businessmen Surender Singh Kandhari, Vivek Chand Burman and Rajinder Singh Chadha were among others who were honoured at the awards ceremony.
While politico Amrinder Raja Brar was the chief guest, politician Sanjay Nirupam and KTS Tulsi (MP and senior advocate, Supreme Court) were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Charan Singh Sapra (politician and Head, Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board) said, “I am extremely delighted with the way the Punjabi Icon Awards has shaped up over these years. The idea is to award personalities who excel in different fields. Our vision is to inspire the young generations and motivate them, encourage them to emulate these icons and make the nation proud. The main objective of the organisation is to promote the rich culture and heritage of Punjab among the younger generation in Mumbai.”
The award ceremony will be telecast on April 17 at 10 pm on a popular Punjabi channel.
