TUTICORIN: A 27-year-old school teacher was found dead with throat slit at Vilathikulam in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Aruna Devi, a teacher at a private school in the area.

Police suspect her husband, Julie Bharath, had murdered her a after a quarrel. They were searching for Bharath who was absconding.

According to police, Bharath, hailing from a dalit community and a music teacher by profession, married Devi, who hailed from a caste Hindu community, a few years ago.

Devi went to her parent’s house in Vilathikulam for delivery. However, she refused to return to his house after giving birth to a son.

He wanted her to return to his house, but she preferred to stay back. She secured a job as a computer teacher at a nearby private school and stayed with her parents. Bharath used to visit her and his child during weekends.

He came to Vilathikulam on Saturday, and the couple had a fight in the night over her refusal to return to Palayamkottai, where he is working.

On Sunday morning, the woman’s parents found her dead with her throat slit with a knife and a chisel.

The Vilathikulam police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. They registered a case.
