Vellore: The district administration has handed over around 8.50 acres of land in Manjakollai Pudur village in Yelagiri Hills to the Sports Department for the construction of high-altitude training centre.
After inspecting the site on Friday, collector S A Raman told TOI that the Public Works Department had been asked to prepare an estimate for constructing the centre. “We have handed over the land after completing all the formalities to the District Sports Officer. We have asked the PWD to prepare the cost estimate for construction the centre,” said the collector.
“We will send the estimate report to the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu within a week or 10 days,” he continued.
A 400-m (eight lane) track with field gallery and office had been proposed in the high-altitude training centre. It would also house a kabaddi court, hockey, volleyball and basketball fields, gym, hall and accommodation facilities, said the Collector.
The collector also inspected the site identified for Jolarpet-Thamaleri Muthur ring road project and also inquired the revenue officials about election preparedness for the local body elections in Tirupattur. He also inspected the counting centre at Meenakshi Girls Higher Secondary School in Tirupattur.
Sub-Collector (in-charge) of Tirupattur Kumaresan and tahsildar Narasimhan also accompanied the collector during the inspection.
