KOLKATA: Even as the detective department tries to ascertain that Kader Khan gets the maximum punishment for his alleged role in the Park Street Gang Rape case of 2012, three persons have emerged as key witnesses who holds the key during the trials. One of them, claim sleuths is none other than Nasser Khan – the brother of Kader – who was one of the first to have been arrested in this case. While the victim herself recorded a strong statement that lawyers and legal experts say is enough to ensure punishment for Kader and his cousin Ali Khan, these three persons will help cops plug any possible loopholes.

“Nasser is important for us as Kader continues to claim that he was not involved in any rape. At present, the statements of the two brothers are contradictory and we will appeal to court to try and bring both of them face to face,” said a sleuth. Besides Nasser, there is a crucial witness in the form of a sixth person who was present along with the arrested five at the Park Street pub that night just before the crime was committed. This same person had left the pub in a separate car and was called up by one of the accused when Kader became violent with the victim. This person had turned back his car towards Exide crossing but by then it was too late.

A third witness is likely to be a Narkeldanga woman who had seen the victim leaving the pub with Kader. She had played a crucial role earlier in the case when she had contacted the detective department after finding some other person was on the verge of getting arrested for this crime. Besides these three, a number of hotel and pub employees are likely to be the prosecution witnesses. The statement of the Narkeldanga resident was significant in helping cops tife over the lost footage from the hotel and establish that the complainant had been gang-raped. She had helped us on earlier occasions and we are expecting cooperation from her yet again,” said an officer. “The neutral witness played a vital role in tracking down the suspects. She later identified one of the accused in the test identification parade,” the officer added.

The developments come on the same day that the detective department – which had filed the chargesheet in the gang rape case – took him in their custody. The police is likely to take Kader and Ali to places around Park Street yet again to reconstruct the crime once again. Of prime importance will be the probe to establish if indeed a gun was wielded by Kader before his victim – a thing mentioned in the FIR lodged at Park Street police station but later dropped during the framing of charges due to lack of evidence. Cops have decided to charge him with additional charges once they place their supplementary chargesheet in court. Besides these objectives, the interrogators are certain that Kader received anywhere between Rs 25,000-35,000 each month. Police are trying to pinpoint those relatives who had played an active role in arranging these funds.
