Mumbai: The blank gun used by Bandra businessman Aditya Maniktala to fire three rounds in the air to scare a motorist on the highway on Saturday was purchased for Rs 25,000.
The Virar police on Saturday seized the Ekol Jackal Dual 9mm pistol. While Maniktala has been booked under the Arms Act, he has not been arrested. The pistol has been send for ballistic examination and the report is expected in around four days, said the police.
On Saturday at around 10.45 am, Maniktala, an executive director in a family run metal industry company based in Bandra, was being driven in his Jaguar. At Virar, he allegedly got annoyed when an Hyundai i10 driven by Jayesh Kadu took a U turn. Maniktala allegedly fired three rounds from the pistol to scare Kadu, a farmer by profession.
Kadu informed the police who tracked down Maniktala who had driven upto Manor on the highway. While Maniktala was let off on Saturday, he was summoned to the police station on Sunday morning.
Maniktala told the police that he made the online purchase of the pistol for Rs 25,000. The pistol used in movies and to signal the start of a race, had caused a scare in and around Virar. Maniktala told the police that he kept the pistol as a hobby and had pulled it out on Saturday as he feared being assaulted by Kadu.
