CHENNAI: DMK treasurer M K Stalin on Sunday demanded that the assembly be convened immediately to discuss the floods and rain-related issues in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Stalin wrote on his Facebook page, “As the monsoon started on October 28, Cuddalore became the worst affected district.

“In November, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur joined, and on December 1 and 2, Chennai along with nearby districts came to a halt and many houses as well as companies were hit [after water was released from the Chembarambakkam lake].”

He said southern districts and in delta districts were also getting heavy rain, and it would take some time to ascertain the damage.

“As almost of the districts have been affected. It is better to discuss the disaster in the assembly. Members of all parties can speak on this issue,” he said.Stalin had earlier sought a probe into the reason for releasing 36,000 cusecs of water from the Chembarambakkam lake on December 2 and 3 without issuing a proper warning.
