MUMBAI: Advocate Poornima Kantharia, who is at present part of the prosecution team in the Salman Khan drunken driving case, has been appointed as Maharashtra Government Pleader (Original Side) at the Bombay high court. She has been an additional public prosecutor for the last 20 years and has led the prosecution in high profile cases including the Gateway-Zaveri Bazar twin blasts case, Bilkis Bano case and MCOCA and POTA cases.
Poornima Kantharia is daughter of retired HC judge Harjivan Das Kantharia. She succeeds D A Nalawade, whose term came to an end on Monday. She is the first Government Pleader to be appointed after an exhaustive interview process mandated after an HC ruling seeking transparency in the process. The interviews for the post were conducted by the Maharashtra Advocate General and the state law secretary.
