MUMBAI: The trials for the second phase of monorail could be delayed by a few months although officials say they are trying to maintain the schedule, a source said. The monorail Phase-2 will connect Wadala to Jacob circle. Trials for this phase were to begin in January.

A source in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that if the trials get pushed to April or May, the second phase will not be ready before September 2016.

“We are trying to meet our deadline and hope to launch the much-awaited service by mid-2016. As of now, we are keeping our fingers crossed,” said a senior official.

The monorail ridership is expected to increase once the entire 20-km Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle corridor is operational from next year.
