MUMBAI: The state government will create a separate cell to streamline the spending of funds from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) on developmental works in the state.

The central government has recommended creating a cell at the state government level to ensure that the funds received by the member of parliament (MP)’s from the state are well spent and on works that are needed urgently in the state.

The cell has been established and four official posts have been created to co-ordinate between the MP’s and the state.

“Since the MP funds have been increased and so has the scope of work. And to ensure that the money is used for works that are required the most in the state are taken up under that fund,” said the government resolution.
