NEW DELHI: An interstate syndicate of gamblers was busted with the arrest of 15 people from southwest Delhi’s Dwarka on Sunday.

The men, including the kingpin, Vinod Gujjar, was arrested during a raid in which police found that they operated from a three-storey apartment in the area. Gujjar was also wanted in cases of attempt to murder. “A team led by inspector special staff Ramesh Kumar and and sub-inspector Naveen was formed to bust the gang.” said R A Sanjeev, DCP southwest.

Police said Gujjar wanted to be known as the greatest gambler in Delhi. The house had casinos and web-based gambling systems connected through servers to deal with the clients. The men tried to flee during the raid but were nabbed. A stash of Rs 10.66 lakh was found with Gujjar.

Gujjar revealed that the men used to call their clients to place bets and delivered the money to their addresses. He also employed people to look after the daily operations.

He had armed guards at the gate of his house for security. He was first arrested in a quarrel case and later in cases under the Arms Act.

A case under sections of the Gambling Act has been registered against Gujjar and his associates.
