KOLKATA: Metro railway will enhance security at stations on Tuesday to prevent any untoward incident during Kali Puja. On Tuesday, the metro will run a holiday service. Instead of 274 services, there will be 136. However, officials feel that there will be a rush at some stations and have made necessary arrangements.

“From our experience during Durga Puja, we apprehend rush at Kalighat, Jatin Das Park and Dumdum stations. To maintain order, we will deploy additional security personnel at these stations. Normally, we have six security personnel posted at Kalighat in every shift. On Tuesday, there will be 10 additional personnel per shift. They will be led by an officer. At Jatin Das Park, 14 personnel will be deployed instead of the normal four. They will be led by an officer. At Dumdum, an officer will be in charge of 14 personnel instead of the normal nine,” said Indrani Banerjee, senior PRO, metro railway.

Security personnel armed with metal detectors will also frisk passengers and go through bags to check for crackers and other inflammable articles, she said.
